WiMAX now offers broadband over 4G wireless connections to 1.7 million potential subscribers in Portland Oregon, according to service provider Clearwire Corp. (Kirkland, Wash.) Called the Clear wireless network, over 300 cell phone towers now have WiMAX base stations installed to cover most of the metropolitan area here. Subscribers pay $20-$50 per month for access to wireless broadband via USB modems for mobile users or using a special WiMAX-enabled Ethernet router at home.
